Dentures & Bridges: What Do Partial Upper Dentures Feel Like?
Note:
Since when does the dentist actually make the denture? The technician is the one who hand-makes the denture! Any new prosthesis in the mouth is abnormal at first and takes around two days to two weeks for the patient to adjust. It will temporarily affect the normal phonetics and mastication (speech and chewing). Any new object in the mouth feels annoying and uncomfortable until the muscles in the mouth and face adjust to the prosthesis.
Dentures & Bridges : How to Brush Dentures
Suggestions:
Unless they are flexible dentures, never squeeze a partial or full lower when you clean them, as they could break. To soak them, half an hour in a sterile liquid or a cleaning tab dissolved in warm water is suitable. Any longer and the cleaner could attack the acrylic. Plain tap water in a denture bath or glass is fine for overnight. If you have a chrome denture, make sure to read the steri info as some turn the chrome black. A quick dip will suffice. You can always contact a local technician for a polish and help in cleaning.
Never use toothpaste to clean a denture! Its is abrasive and takes the shine off the acrylic. I make dental prosthetics and know what toothpaste does to them after years in the job. You won’t have a model to place your dentures on, so you may find they pop out of your hands when they are wet. Fill the sink with water to act as a cushion so they have less chance of being fractured if you drop them. Hold an edge with the forefinger and thumb. Rinse food and other particles off the denture and use a soft toothbrush to clean.
